Let me tell you more about Gorakhpur .....

    Located at Indian National Highway No. 28 and a longitude-latitude of 26⁰ 46' N, 83⁰ 23' E, it is one of the best cities of eastern U.P. (alias Poorvanchal). Named after the great saint of "nath" sect "baba Gorakhnath", who was an ardent devotee of Lord  Shiva, the city has a very beautiful temple in his name "Gorakhnath Mandir". The river "Rapti" runs by the city, originating from somewhere in Nepal and joining "ghaghara", another big river of poorvanchal.

Gorakhpur is also famous for "Gita Press", which has been providing Hindu religious scriptures at an affordable cost. Another place worth visiting is a well maintained temple "Gita Vatika".

Kushinagar, at a distance of 55 kms from Gorakhpur is a major Buddhist pilgrimage. It is the "mahanirvan" place of Gautam Buddha. Nepal is around 100 km. from Gorakhpur, where one may visit "Lumbini", The birth place of Gautam Buddha. The other places of importance nearby Gorakhpur are "Varanasi" and "Allahabad", both the places are at ~4 hrs drive.
